BJP is casting a new project, set to premiere at the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts October 2020.

The project is an audience-absorbing interface for dance and music, light and space, individual and community, and intimacy and grandeur. With a 16-person ensemble of dancers and musicians who perform within, alongside, and surrounding the audience, the work pushes towards the exponential potential for the resounding body to craft communal experience, and therefore, community.

The 8 dancers will be singing and dancing alongside 8 musicians (violin, cello, piano, electric bass, percussion, french horn, oboe, clarinet) who will move through the space as well. Music is being developed by DMV composer Sean Doyle, with lighting by New Haven designer Evan Anderson.

BJP is seeking 3 dancers to join the cast. Dancers must have strong vocal skills with experience singing in harmony within large groups, as well as professional contemporary dance performance experience with strengths in partnering, rhythmic acuity, improvisation, and collaborative creative processing.

Rehearsals will be mostly on weekends with some week nights, and will scheduled once the cast is solidified. Rehearsals will also be scheduled in accordance to the ever-changing needs of our communities’ response to COVID-19. Meaning – rehearsal schedules will prioritize safety while allowing the work to be built, utilizing technology if needed. Rehearsals will not begin until June at the earliest, and will take place in Washington, D.C.

The current compensation offer is a confirmed $450 for rehearsal, and we are working on more grant support to up stipends for rehearsal and performance.
